Mish mosh...

This past week has felt like a bit of a mish mosh...

Last week during discussion with classmates, I was able to recognize my struggle to add words into my journal. I find that I am enjoying the art making process so much that I am feeling a little anxiety about adding words to them. Part of my inquiry has been to simply experiment, be free and have fun.. and that has been getting easier. But the other side of inquiry about the personal nature and benefits of art journaling has stalled. I have simply been creating without specific intention. Perhaps I need to get back there again.

A classmate suggested McNiff's technique of dialoging with the artwork
to gain some insight...and actually I sort of did that intuitively with my last page and felt like there was more of a connection and intention with the page. I was able to add some words with meaning.

It may have also been related to creating a window with a paper that had words on it already (that I painted over).

I decided to set up a space in my house downstairs to work on my mixed media painting. I put down a drop cloth on the carpet, set up my easel (which is a bit complicated surprisingly), prepped a new palette with some gesso and then got distracted by my journal work. I've been wanting to create my own rubber stamps, so I looked up a couple sites that I'd bookmarked a while ago as well as some art journaling inspirations. I also collected my rubber stamp supplies and looked for possible quotes to add to pages from think exist.

Lani Gerity (of course) She offers prompts for creativity and presents this page as "In Case of Emergency".

I have to confess - I have shamelessly stolen Lani Gerity's link from your blog - THANK YOU for finding it. It is LOVELY - so LOVELY that I wanted to widely share it - I hope you can forgive me!
In the words of one of my favorite poets, William Carlos Williams:

This is Just to Say

I have eaten
the plums
that were in
the icebox

and which
you were probably
saving
for breakfast

Forgive me
they were delicious
so sweet
and so cold
